This list covers eight of them — chess, ludo, snakes and ladders, carrom, four in a row, klondike solitaire, spider solitaire and mahjong solitaire — all playable on a phone, tablet or computer with nothing to download.
You can play against friendly computer opponents, four of these games also let two or more people share one device, and one lets you play online with friends on their own phones. Every game is an original GamesYap version with its own art and characters, built on rules that everyone knows.

Board games
1. Chess Citadel – chess
Chess Citadel follows every rule of chess — castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate, stalemate and draws — inside a living cartoon citadel. Four named opponents, from Novice to Hard, wave hello, think out loud and gasp at your big captures, which makes it a friendly place to learn.
Legal-move highlights, a live move list, hints and undo help beginners, while the Puzzle Path teaches the classic checkmates in 12 steps. There is also a daily checkmate puzzle and a two-player mode.

Start with our chess for beginners guide and the checkmate patterns every player should know.
2. Ludo Lantern – ludo
Ludo Lantern is the classic four-colour dice race on a carved wooden board under festival lanterns. Throw 3D dice, bring tokens out with a 6, race them round the board and send rivals home with a capture.
Play Quick matches with 2 tokens each or Classic with 4, against bots on Easy, Normal or Hard, or pass-and-play with 2 to 4 friends. The Lantern Cup takes you through ten rounds, and optional Lantern Powers add a Shield, a +3 boost and an extra roll on glowing tiles.

Check the ludo rules and tips before your first family game.
3. Snake Ludu – snakes and ladders
Snake Ludu is snakes and ladders on a colourful 3D board, played online. Find a quick match with real players, open a private room for up to 10 friends with an invite link, or practise against bots. Boards run from a 50-square Mini to a 300-square Legend.
Coins, bombs, ice, spike pits, shields, extra-roll gems and rockets add twists to the classic race, and you can throw tomatoes at the other players between rolls. Read our snakes and ladders rules for the classic game and its house rules.
4. Carrom Comet – carrom
Carrom Comet brings the much-loved tabletop game online with real physics for bounces, cut shots and cushion rebounds. A dotted guide shows the first contact and where the coin will go. Play six Carrom Club rivals, the computer on three levels, 30 Trick Shot puzzles or two-player pass-and-play. Our carrom guide explains the queen and scoring.
5. Disc Drop Duel – four in a row
In Disc Drop Duel you take turns dropping discs into a 7 by 6 board and try to line up four across, down or diagonally before your rival. Four opponents range from Starter to Hard, and the Puzzle Trail's 15 win-in-N brain-teasers sharpen your tactics. Games are quick, which makes it ideal for a short break. Learn the key ideas in our four in a row strategy guide.
Card and tile games
6. Solitaire Sunrise – klondike solitaire
Solitaire Sunrise is the patience game most people simply call "solitaire": move all 52 cards to the four foundations, each suit from Ace up to King. Choose Draw 1 or Draw 3, and pick relaxed deals that are always winnable or random shuffles for purists. Unlimited undo and free hints mean you are never stuck. See our klondike solitaire strategy.
7. Spider Solitaire Sunrise – spider solitaire
For a deeper challenge, Spider Solitaire Sunrise asks you to build runs from King down to Ace in one suit across ten columns. Start with 1 suit, then move on to 2 or 4. Relaxed deals are proven winnable, and smart hints never send you in circles. Our spider solitaire guide explains how to empty columns.
8. Lotus Mahjong – mahjong solitaire
Lotus Mahjong is the single-player tile-matching game based on mahjong tiles: match pairs of free tiles until the board is clear. Every board is winnable, from 32 tiles up to the 144-tile Grand Lotus. Learn the rules in mahjong solitaire rules and strategy.
Playing with family and friends
Board games are at their best when shared. These games support play on one device:
- Ludo Lantern: pass-and-play for 2 to 4 players.
- Chess Citadel, Carrom Comet and Disc Drop Duel: two-player modes on one phone, tablet or computer.
- Snake Ludu: online — everyone plays on their own phone in a private room for up to 10 friends.
Place the device flat on a table between players, and take turns. For more ideas, see our list of free 2-player games. Curious where these games came from? Read our short history of classic board games.
